On Monday July 9, Joel Davis discussed his experiences in writing his critically acclaimed book, Justice Waits – the compelling true story of “The UC Davis Sweetheart Murders,” the shocking 1980 double homicide that rocked the entire Northern California community.
This case remained unsolved for two decades before Davis, a classmate of one of the victims, decided to look into it himself in the summer of 2000. Despite simultaneously waging his own battle with Parkinson’s disease, Davis’s efforts produced twofold success: his book and the arrest of the man now charged with this horrific crime. Justice Waits has been featured on the CBS news program “48 Hours Mystery” as well as numerous other media outlets. Additional information can be found on www.justicewaits.com.
Joel Davis is an award-winning Sacramento-based journalist and college journalism instructor. A native of Davis, Calif., and a former reporter for the Davis Enterprise, his work has appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle, the Sacramento Business Journal, the Sacramento News & Review, Sacramento Magazine, Comstocks Magazine and Editor & Publisher.
