The Sacramento Press Club welcomed

California Watch Editorial Director Mark Katches

Trying to beat your competitors to a story has always been one of the dominant forces in journalism. With that in mind, please the Sacramento Press Club welcomed Mark Katches, editorial director of California Watch, a new, non-profit multimedia venture that has opened a Sacramento bureau staffed with the largest investigative reporting team in the state. An arm of the Center for Investigative Reporting, California Watch is also introducing an entirely new business model for journalism, one that fosters in-depth collaboration and partnerships between news organizations, reporters, public institutions and universities.  

 

In his first visit to the Press Club, Katches detailed how this model will work and why California Watch believes they key to saving the industry may just be getting news organizations to shift their focus from competition to collaboration.
