Please join us on Tuesday, October 14 as the Sacramento Press Club Freelance Committee presents:

Blogging for Fun and Profit

Once derided as a venting post for political wing nuts and tech geeks, blogs are becoming more and more accepted as viable sources of news and information on everything from politics to fashion, food and sports. But creating the next Huffington Post or Deadspin takes more than a laptop and a never ending supply of opinions, particularly if you want your blog to be a source of income or a legitimate place to professionally market yourself. So, please join us on Tuesday October 14 as we are joined by three local journalists who have learned how to make their blogs both interesting and profitable.

Our speakers:

Bill Bradley, www.newwestnotes.com. Bradley is an award-winning columnist and former political advisor whose blog offers real-time analysis of California’s politics. He is regularly featured on the liberal Huffington Post and the conservative Pajamas Media and has written for a score of major national and international publications.

Ann Martin Rolke writes for Edible Sacramento magazine and blogs about Sacramento food and restaurants at www.Sacatomato.com.  She is a culinary consultant in Sacramento and a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America who has worked extensively in the food world in restaurants, test kitchens, food marketing, publicity, copyediting, and writing. Her first cookbook, Hands-Off Cooking, was published by Wiley & Sons in 2007.

Former Sacramento Bee reporter James Raia is a full-time freelancer who has traveled the world covering cycling, golf, running and lifestyle events for more than 20 years. Raia is co-author of the 2005 book Tour de France For Dummies as well as a webmaster, syndicated columnist, media consultant and frequent radio and television guest commentator. He regularly blogs at www.byjamesraia.com.
